Lee Lacrosse Wins 21-17 Over Converse University

The Lee University lacrosse team scored five goals in the first three minutes and then held off the Converse University rally to secure a 21-17 win on Monday afternoon. Callie Curtis had six goals while Hannah Vecsey had five goals and an assist. Lee improved to 3-8 on the year while Converse fell to 3-9.
 
The Lady Flames came blazing out of the gate. Taylor McGovern scored the opening goal of the game just twenty seconds after the start. Callie Curtis then made it 2-0 just 25 seconds later.
Hannah Vecsey made it 3-0 less than 90 seconds into the start the game. Vecsey scored again 45 seconds later and Lee led it 4-0. Another minute later, McGivern scored her second goal of the game and Lee led it 5-0 less than three minutes into the contest. 
 
At the ten minute mark, Converse would get their first goal of the game. Lee would answer behind a free position shot from Makenna Luzier. With six minutes left in the first quarter, Kamille Kremkau made it 7-1 for Lee. Noelle Harrington added a goal to make it 8-1. Converse scored twice more to cut it to 8-3. Lee responded one more time in the first quarter with another Callie Curtis goal. Converse scored with one second left in the period to make it 9-4 after the first 15 minutes. 
 
Converse scored twice in the first five minutes of the second quarter to make it a 9-6 game. Lee responded once again with a man-up goal from Curtis. Lily Tomczik got on the board with a free position shot to make it 11-6. Emelia Tippett then doubled up the lead with her first goal. Vecsey and Curtis each added another goal, but Converse cut it down to a 14-9 game at the halftime break.
 
Converse came out hot in the second half scoring four straight goals to cut it all the way down to a 14-13 game. After a timeout, the Lady Flames responded with goals from Luzier and Vecsey. Converse cut back into the lead before Curtis scored her fifth goal of the game. Vecsey scored her fifth goal as well and Lee led 18-15 at the end of the third. 
 
The scoring dropped way off during the fourth quarter. Converse scored the first goal before Lee snagged the next three. Curtis scored her sixth while Kremkau and McGivern scored to give Lee their 21 goals. Converse added one more to give the Valkyries 17.
 
Lee outshot Converse 38-34, but the Valkyries had 23 shots on goal to just 21 for Lee. Each team had a player with six goals. Curtis had six shots find their way into the back of the net while Hailey Obenchain had six goals for Converse. McGovern slotted three goals while Vecsey had five and an assist.
 
In goal, Savannah Weisman made eight saves.
 
The Lady Flames will return back home on Saturday, March 29 against Maryville University.
