Mitchell Meeks
Mitchell Meeks died on Friday, March 21, at 1:08 p.m. at his home in Soddy Daisy. He was 65.
Mitchell was a local attorney since 2004 and practiced law since graduating from Wake Forest University in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mimi Meeks, whom he married at Laguna Beach, Ca., in 1987. They dated at Tennessee Temple and reconnected with each other later in California. Mitchell is also survived by his two children, Jarrod and Victoria Meeks, his daughter-in-law, Chasitie Meeks, his grandson Cooper James Meeks, and his future son-in-law, Jacob Bear. In addition, Mr. Meeks is survived by his mother, Judy Mast, his sisters, Kristy Hurst and Robin Gladdis, his brothers-in-law, Randy Hurst, Damon Raines, Ben Raines, and Bhody Raines, and his sisters-in-law, Patti Raines, Sandy Raines, and Wendi Raines. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, as well as personal and professional friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Franklin Meeks, who died in 2014.
Mitchell was born in Tampa, Fl., on July 31, 1959. He attended Temple Heights Christian High School, where he graduated in 1977. He took a gap year to travel with Life Action Ministry, where he sang in an ensemble. He knew and loved his Jesus and he lived to make His great name known to everyone he met. He attended Tennessee Temple from 1978-1982. He graduated to Wake Forest School of Law, where he earned a J.D. in 1985. He moved to California and married his college sweetheart, Mimi Raines, in 1987. They had their first child, Jarrod, in 1989. He, Mimi, and Jarrod moved to Tampa in 1991. In 1998, they had their second child, Victoria. They moved to Soddy Daisy, in 2004, where he worked at the legal firm Copeland, Whittenburg, & Meeks for 20 years. Mitchell was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. He was beloved by his family and will continue to be in memory. To his wife and children, he was “the best husband and father who ever was.”
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Abba’s House, 5208 Hixson Pike. The funeral service will be at the church at 2 p.m. with Pastors Ron and Ronnie Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
