Curtain Call Society Performs The Alibis

  • Tuesday, March 4, 2025

The Curtain Call Society at Cleveland State Community College will present the theater production of The Alibis on March 28, 29, April 4 and 5 at 7 p.m. and April 5 at 2 p.m. in the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center at Cleveland State. Admission is free to everyone for these performances.

Directed by Holly Shiveley, Cleveland State Associate Professor of Communications, and written by playwrights Tyler Dwiggins, Kathryn Funkhouser, Patrick Greene, Mora V. Harris, Ian McWethy, Carrie McWethy (McCrossen) and Jason Pizzarello, this play is the story about eight playwrights challenged to find the comedy in crime in eight ten-minute plays wrapped in a classic whodunnit. When eccentric billionaire J. Leslie Arlington is murdered, a clueless detective finds the suspects are all reluctant to admit their alibis because they were all committing other ridiculous crimes at the time. You never know what's coming next when your suspects include a disgruntled chef, sleazy lawyer, candy obsessed thief, frazzled mother, cynical professor, vengeful diva, and arch nemesis. But one thing's certain: every alibi is absolutely absurd!

Shiveley said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to direct this show as it is the first time in the 14 years I’ve
been at Cleveland State that we’ve had so many actors involved! This cast has been working
hard to help us build our program. We are confident that you will enjoy this ridiculously funny
show.”
