Margaret Ann "Maggie" Harwell Greene
Margaret Ann "Maggie" Harwell Greene, of Dunlap, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the age of 90.
She was born in 1934 in Nashville, where she attended Hillsboro High School and then Vanderbilt University as a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Her youthful natural beauty and many social activities resulted in frequent appearances in the society pages of The Tennessean throughout her college years. She graduated from Vanderbilt in 1957 with a degree in nursing and began a long career in service to others.
Maggie spent nearly two decades in nursing at TVA’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and retired in 1994. She lived for the last 45 years in the picturesque Sequatchie Valley, where she and her husband Ernie Greene built and enjoyed their dream home, Greene Valley Farm. For many years, she and Ernie loved hosting family reunions at the farm, creating so many cherished memories of fireworks and fun with loved ones.
She thrived in her retirement years assisting Ernie with his business, Colonial Exterminating, and traveling frequently, including cruising the world with friends and family. Maggie was a devoted member of Dunlap United Methodist Church and an active contributor to numerous community organizations: the Lions Club, Gideons, Sequatchie County Senior Citizens Center, and Book Club, among others.
Maggie’s love and devotion to family anchored her life. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity and welcoming spirit, with a heart for people in need. Her sweet demeanor punctuated by a sharp wit brought joy to so many throughout her 90 years.
Maggie is survived by her sons, Steven Swink (Sheila) of Ooltewah, and Thomas Swink (Megan) of Mt. Juliet; daughter Katherine Swink (Mary) of Decatur, GA; Linda Williams, companion of her late son, Michael Swink of Dunlap; grandchildren Drew, Thomas, Maggie, Maddox, Kimbel, Ryan, Megan, Nathan, Jeffrey, Sarah, Amanda, and Tiffany; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grand-children.
The family is grateful to the staff at StoryPoint Senior Living who surrounded her with loving comfort and care in her final weeks.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 8, at Ewton Funeral Home in Dunlap, TN with visitation starting at 11 a.m. CT. A graveside service at Chapel Hill Cemetery will follow along with a reception at Dunlap United Methodist Church.
