Billie Slatten Lane, 83 of Hixson, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

She was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church, Mayflower Society, and Ralph Smith Society. Billie was a graduate of Northwestern State University with a degree in microbiology; and 30 graduate hours in entomology; a graduate of LSU with a master’s degree in medical Bacteriology.

Billie taught at the graduate level at Chattanooga State for 31 years in the biology department. While teaching, she wrote three textbooks and published a guide book on how to study. She received 10 awards from Who’s Who for being a gifted teacher.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed Lane Sr.; parents, Pearle and Alvy Slatten; sister, Jenny Slatten; and brothers, Alvy Slatten and Dr. Will Slatten.

Survivors include her son, Charles Edward (Kathy) Lane Jr.; grandson, Charles Edward Lane III; sister, Mary DesDemona (Charlie) DeVille; brother, Tommy (Susan) Slatten; and close friends, Theresa (Robert) Reagan.

A visitation for Billie will be held on Monday, April 14, from 4-8 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

A funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

A committal will occur at Hamilton Memorial Gardens following the service, 5351 TN-153, Chattanooga, Tn. 37343.
