William “Bill” Stephen Murrey, Jr.
William “Bill” Stephen Murrey, Jr., 89, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 12, 2025.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1935, in Williamson County, Tn. on his grandfather’s farm to the late Frances Lucile Vaden and William S. Murrey, Sr.
Mr. Murrey was a 1954 graduate of Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tn. He received his bachelor of science degree from Vanderbilt University in 1958.
Bill retired from the state of Tennessee after 32 years of service as an Industrial Hygienist.
He was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church. Some of his hobbies included gardening, hunting, camping and traveling the west and he was an avid Tennessee Vol fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and those he loved.
His brother, Jack Murrey preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Donna P. Murrey; daughters, Kim (Max) Hawes of Soddy Daisy, Jane (James) Bryan of Ooltewah; son, Stanley Murrey of Ooltewah; eight grandchildren, Adam Bryan, Emily McGlohon, Jordan Burch, Ashley Jones, Taylor Patterson, Orry Murrey, Tristan Murrey, and Chase Hawes; twelve great-grandsons, and four great-granddaughters; sisters, Frances (Sam) Smith of Spring Hill, Tn., and Betty (Jones) Arnold of Oakridge, Tn.; and longtime friends, John Campbell of Ooltewah, and Rod and Candy Huskey of Jackson Hole, Wy.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 17, from 10:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 East Brainerd Rd., Chattanooga, Tn. 37421. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. David Hall officiating.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 610 Mt. Hope St., Franklin, Tn. 37064 on Saturday, May 17, at 3:30 p.m. (CDT).
