Huber, Sheila May

Had A Passion For Exotic Bird Rescue

  • Wednesday, May 14, 2025

Sheila May Huber (née Stankey) passed away at her home in Hixson, Tennessee, on May 6, 2025, at the age of 64.

Born on Dec. 1, 1960, in Wisconsin and raised in Chicago, Sheila lived in several places throughout her life—including California and Australia—before settling in Tennessee, where she chose to put down roots.

It was during her time in Australia that Sheila discovered her passion and gift for rescuing exotic and predatory birds. She managed six aviaries and formed deep, personal bonds with the birds in her care—knowing their personalities, moods, and quirks. She often spoke to them, and they spoke back. At home, her devotion to her own birds reflected the warmth of her heart, offering them unwavering love, comfort, and care. Exotic bird rescue was one of her life’s true passions.

Sheila is survived by her son, Arthur Huber, her five siblings, and her two cherished parakeets, Fargo and Geronimo—all of whom will miss her deeply.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37379, 423 843-2525.
