Billy Wayne Smith
Billy Wayne Smith, 85, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away on May 22, 2025.
He was born on June 27, 1939, in Old Hickory, Tn., to the late Acie B. Smith and Bonnie Mae Smith.
Billy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Jean Smith, and his son, Kevin Smith.
He is survived by his sister, Betty (W.C.) Hawkins of Franklin, Tn.; his daughter, Kim (Gary) Woodburn of Chattanooga; his grandchildren: Christofer (Kaci) Roy and Bailey Anderson; and his great-grandchildren: Ayden, Lincoln, Brylie, and Reagan.
A proud graduate of Tennessee Tech, Billy earned his degree in electrical engineering and had a distinguished career with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Retiring after many years of dedicated service, Billy returned to work with Mesa Associates, Inc., continuing his love of electrical engineering.
Billy and his wife Ruby shared a love of travel and spent many cherished years exploring new places together. He was also a longtime member of both East Brainerd Church of Christ and Tyner Church of Christ, where he found fellowship and spiritual strength.
Billy was known for his love of watching sports and classic westerns. He could often be found cheering on his favorite teams or enjoying a good cowboy movie. His family, friends, and colleagues will remember him for his kind heart, his love for learning, and his unwavering devotion as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to impact all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, and from 10-12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28.
Funeral services will be noon on Wednesday in the chapel. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
