Frankie Mae Smartt
Frankie Smartt transitioned from this life on Tuesday, May 27, at the age of 75. At her bedside were two daughters, Laquonitia Smartt and Kisha Smartt, and granddaughter, Quonshiunna Hobdley at Hospice of Chattanooga.
Frankie was born on Jan. 7, 1950, and preceded in death by parents, Henry and Hattie Mae Rollins Sr., and Saint John Simpson; husband, Willie Smartt; brothers, Theodore "Ted" Rollins, and Lee Mosely "Butch" Rollins Sr.; sister, Hattie Ruth Watkins "Pinkie".
Frankie attended Riverside High School and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Chattanooga. Frankie was a self-employed daycare provider for the family. She kept her grandchildren until it was time to attend school so that they could inform us of any mistreatment or harm. One thing for sure she made sure the family knew about God and what God went through for us. She told us to “always put God first, go to Him first and then come to Mom.’’ The grandchildren loved having Bible study with her. Frankie's family and God were her two biggest passions. The letters she wrote were spiritual and uplifting advice on whatever you are going through. Full of love, laughter, and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memories five daughters, Felica Smartt, Kisha Smartt, Kamilah Smartt, Lashanda Bullard (Juandrick), Laquonitia Smartt (Unjolee); son, Derrick Smartt (Cynthia); three sisters, Minnie King, Linda Edwards, and Patricia Spivey (Alexander); five brothers, Edward Rollins Sr. (Ernestine), Junior Rollins, Donald Rollins Sr. (Kimberly), Johnny Rollins Sr. (Robinteen); 22 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, June 13, beginning at 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at noon at John P Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423 622-9995.
Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery at 2 p.m.
