One of Chattanooga's most talented jewelry designers, Jeffrey Stuart Alper, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 14, 2025 after an extended illness.

Jeff was born October 18, 1947 in Chattanooga. He attended Margaret Wilson Elementary School, Brainerd Junior High School, Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia and graduated from Chattanooga City High School. At City High, he was President of the Sertoma Club, a nationwide service club dedicated to hearing health issues and hearing aid availability.

Jeff received his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from University of Tennessee - Chattanooga. He found his passion in jewelry design and created one-of-a-kind gold pieces for hundreds of Chattanoogans over a period of twenty years. He and his wife Donna owned Jeffrey Alper Designs from 1977 - 1995. After retirement, Jeff enjoyed learning how to create pottery.

Jeff was a past President of the Kiwanis Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hixson. He enjoyed his dogs, playing cards, visiting with family and eating his sister's brisket and Couch's barbecue.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Harold Alper and Maxine Block Alper, father-in-law, Cecil H. Marshall and mother-in-law, Jean Quinn Marshall.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Marshall Alper; son, Justin Alper; sister, Debby Alper; and brother, Ches (Carol) Alper; all of the Chattanooga area.

The family is deeply grateful to James Igani for his unfailing friendship, physical therapy expertise and caregiving. They also thank the staff of Chattanooga Health & Rehab Center (formerly Viviant Health Care) for their excellent support and friendship.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Wednesday, June 18, at B'nai Zion Cemetery at 605 Lullwater Road in Chattanooga with Rabbi Sam Rotenberg officiating.

Pallbearers will be Justin Alper, James Igani, Ches Alper, Steve Bush, and Don Wise.
