SETROPES Division announces all 20 Sea Cadets successfully completed a demanding nine-day rope rescue training.
Officials said, "The depth and breadth of the curriculum—from foundational skills like knot tying and anchoring to advanced techniques such as high-angle litter rigging and hanging pickoffs—speak to the serious commitment to developing real-world emergency rescue capabilities.
"The emphasis on certification under NFPA 2500 and 1006 standards is particularly commendable.
These nationally recognized benchmarks ensure that the cadets are trained to the same high standards expected of professional emergency service personnel, positioning them as truly capable responders.
"One of the most valuable aspects of this program is the partnerships with Walden's Ridge Emergency Services, the Lebanon Fire Department, the Smith County Rescue Squad, Sparta-White County Rescue Squad and the Mountain Ropes Safety Courses. The involvement of practitioners who actively work in emergency response brings realism and relevance to the training. Their mentorship provides cadets with critical insights into real-world applications, current best practices and the gravity of decision-making under pressure.
"Equally impressive is the curriculum’s thoughtful progression—from mastering individual skills such as belaying and rappelling, to tackling complex, team-based scenarios that require mechanical advantage systems and coordinated patient extractions. This approach not only builds technical competence but also fosters confidence, teamwork, and leadership qualities essential in emergency response.
"Bravo Zulu to the cadets, instructors and organizers whose dedication and professionalism made this training a resounding success. These newly certified rope rescue specialists are not only assets to their local communities but also shining examples of the Sea Cadet Corps' mission: to cultivate disciplined, capable, and service-minded young leaders."
