Rufus Sanders, of Hixson, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Rufus was born in Dunlap, Tennessee and was a graduate of Whitwell High School. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Rufus was retired from TVA and was currently a member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eunice Cookston Sanders; parents, Joseph and Cora Sanders; great grandson, William Spencer Sowrey; siblings Ruby Girdley, Cora Tisdale and Howard Sanders.

Rufus is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Sowrey; son and daughter-in-law, David Anthony and Sonja Sanders; grandchildren, Brittan Sanders and Brandon (Kate) and Tyler Sowrey.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Services for Rufus will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the North Chapel with Reverend Roger DeHart officiating. Burial will be held in Bryant Cemetery, Dunlap, Tn., at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
