Gary Douglas Crider, 74, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the local hospital.
Gary was born on May 9, 1951, in Dalton, a son of the late Ralph J. and Mattie Sue Ketchum Crider. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Randle Crider, Roger Crider, and James Crider, and his sister, Christine Maddox.
A 1969 graduate of Valley Point High School, Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His time in service was a point of great pride, and he carried the values of dedication, honor, and commitment with him throughout his life. After his military service, Gary worked as a truck driver and retired from Hankins Trucking Company, where his strong work ethic and reliability earned him the respect of many.
Above all, Gary cherished his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend who never missed an opportunity to support and encourage those he loved. Whether sharing a meal, offering wise advice, or telling a story from the road, Gary’s warmth and presence brought comfort to everyone around him.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Scarlett and Kenneth Dagnan, Sr., of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Samantha and Robert Nail, Kenneth Dagnan, Jr., and Peyton Dagnan; sister, Helen McGee of Cisco, GA; step-grandchildren, Madison Dagnan and Robert Dagnan; step-great-granddaughter, Kaitlynn Dagnan; and several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Crider will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14, at noon at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Curtis Belcher officiating. He will be laid to rest with his family at Fairview Cemetery at Hall Memorial. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Nail, Kenneth Dagnan, Jr., Peyton Dagnan, Chase Pace, Joseph Dagnan, and Kenneth Dagnan, Sr.
Military graveside honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
