Mark Edward Wesson, 69, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, lover of Jesus Christ, The Bible, his family, playing games, and tickling the ivories, relocated to his new and permanent home in heaven on Sunday, August 17, 2025. He passed away at his residence.

Mark was born in Birmingham, Al., in June of 1956 to the late James Robert Wesson and Ruth Janelle Smith Wesson. His family soon moved to Nashville, in the Crieve Hall area. Mark graduated from John Overton High School. He studied piano at the Vanderbilt Peabody College but switched his major and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BE degree in Electrical Engineering.

He began his engineering journey with TVA and then held a long career with EPB until retirement, starting in an engineering position and then later switching over to management.

Mark and Sherry were the parents of three sons, and Mark loved being their dad. Whatever activities they were involved in, he was right in the middle, coaching, encouraging, helping with homework, Boys Choir dad, Band Booster parent, he took on the jobs with love. Later came 12 grandchildren, whom he adored.

At the age of 25 he gave his life to Christ and became a “new creature”. He began reading and memorizing scripture at a feverish pace. The more he read, the more in love with Jesus he became. He served in many areas, youth worker, evangelism programs, church visitation, Sunday school teacher to both youth and adults, numerous committees, pastor search, choir, pianist, youth chaperone, and mission trips.

He was preceded in death by his dad, James Robert Wesson, brother James Robert (Bobby) Wesson, and brother-in-law, Rolf Klenk.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sherry Wesson, sons Christopher (Rachel) Wesson of Harrison, Gregory (Caroline) Wesson of Ooltewah, and Matthew Wesson of Chattanooga, mother, Jan Wesson of Ooltewah, grandchildren, Aiden, Chloe, Ellie, Silas, Abby, Nathan, Cora, Louis, Samuel, Katherine, John Max, and Joseph, sister, Janni Klenk of Los Gatos, Ca., brother, Phil (Karen) Wesson of Chelsea, Al., sister-in-law, Jenny Wesson, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 4-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist 5401 TN-153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Bayside Baptist Church, 6100 TN-58, Harrison, Tn. 37341. Interment will immediately follow in the McDonald East View Cemetery, 8004 McDonald Cemetery Road, Ooltewah, Tn. 37363.
