Man Who Killed Lifelong Acquaintance With His Car Ruled Incompetent To Stand Trial

Prosecutors said a man who killed a lifelong acquaintance by running into him with his car has been found incompetent to stand trial. Despite the ruling, General Sessions Court Judge Gary Starnes conducted a preliminary hearing and bound a case of second-degree murder to the Grand Jury against Corey Devon Washington, 45, of Ooltewah. VONORE, Tenn. — Holding off a late challenge by a county rival, Walker Valley claimed its second tournament championship in two days, earning the top trophy at the Golden Eagle Invitational Wednesday. After galloping away from nine opponents by at least 18 strokes at Lake Tansi Tuesday in the Golf Capital Classic, the Mustangs held off Bradley Central 312-314 at The Links at Kahite course less than 24 hours later. Lookouts Bullpen Blows Lead Late

The Chattanooga Lookouts got just what they needed from starting pitcher T.J. Sikkema on Thursday night. With the offense scuffling of late Sikkema tossed five strong innings allowing only one run. The offense took advantage with a run scoring hit from Leo Balcazar in the third. He then scored on an Edwin Arroyo single. The score remained 2-1 in the Lookouts favor through seven innings thanks to two scoreless innings of work from Joel Valdez who now sports a 1.55 earned run average. ... more
