On Sunday morning, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded to a report of a sow black bear that had been struck and killed by a vehicle along U.S. Highway 19E in Sullivan County. The response led to the successful rescue and release of three orphaned bear cubs into a remote area of the Cumberland Mountains. TWRA received the initial call around 7 a.m. and had personnel enroute within 30 minutes. By 8:30 a.m., officers were on the scene, but no cubs were immediately visible. ... more

Current regulations in Hamilton County allow essentially unlimited building in a flood plain if it is raised to an elevation at least one foot above the flood zone elevation. The “flood plain”, also known as the “100-year flood zone”, is an area deemed as having a one percent chance of flooding. A key point is that a 100-year flood does not mean it will flood every 100 years, but rather there is a one percent chance of that level of flood happening each year. The Chattanooga Mocs have awarded head men's basketball coach a six-year contract extension. That comes after a regular season Southern Conference title and run to the team's first NIT Championship.
