Former Amos And Andy Buick To House Offices, Retail

Kinsey Proceeding On Clark Brothers Development

  • Tuesday, February 5, 2002

The former Amos and Andy Buick Company on South Broad Street across from the Chattanoogan conference center will be redeveloped.

And, also in the Southside, former Mayor Jon Kinsey is proceeding with development of the Clark Brothers Furniture property.

Porter Yarbrough, of the firm of Berry, Hunt, Yarbrough that owns it, said one prospective tenant has been found to occupy half the space.

He said the 160 parking spots at the property will remain. Those are rented mainly to TVA and Cigna workers as well as to some employees at the new Development Resource Center.

Mr. Yarbrough noted the property is located in an expanding area of the Southside. "It's wedged between the Chattanoogan and the DRC," he said.

The property is 1.8 acres and the building includes 31,000 square feet.

The firm is seeking to get the property rezoned from manufacturing to commercial 3.

Mr. Kinsey is also seeking a zoning change for the Clark Brothers property at Main and Market that his Kinsey-Probasco firm recently bought.

That request is also to go from manufacturing to commercial 3.

The application asks for mixed use - commercial, office, retail and residential. Mr. Kinsey reportedly plans to move to that location, which is just across the street from his Chattanooga Choo Choo property.

Clark Brothers is moving to another location and will deal with a single furniture manufacturer, owner Bob Campbell said.
