Contest to Raise Environmental Awareness Among Local Youth; Deadline to Enter is Dec. 18
WTCI, the community’s PBS station, is teaming up with the Tennessee Aquarium to present a new contest open to students in kindergarten though high school. The first “Do Your Part” contest encourages area youth to share their ideas to save and clean up the local environment.
WTCI is currently accepting ideas to solve an ecological problem or share a solution that a person can do to help clean up the environment. Solutions can be told by drawing a picture, writing an essay (no longer than 250 words) or submitting a short video (maximum length of 5 minutes).
Winners will be named from three age categories (elementary, middle and high school). Each winner will receive a one-year family membership to the Tennessee Aquarium and be featured in a PSA campaign on WTCI, WTCI’s Web site and in the WTCI ViewFinder.
Complete rules and an entry form for the contest can be found at www.wtciTV.org. The deadline to enter is Dec. 18, 2006.
“This contest is another way WTCI is engaging our viewers with dynamic educational outreach services,” said Paul Grove, WTCI President and CEO. “I hope parents will encourage their children to enter the contest and play an active role in keeping this community a beautiful place to live.”
The “Do Your Part” contest was inspired by Jean-Michel Cousteau and the Ocean Adventures Team who are finding innovative ways to show people the natural beauty of our blue planet and to reinforce our obligation to protect it. Survival on our planet depends on each one of us taking personal responsibility to do whatever it takes to protect the environment, each and every day.
