POMCO Group Wins State Bid, Opens Chattanooga Office

  • Friday, December 29, 2006

POMCO Group of Syracuse, N.Y., has won a state of Tennessee insurance handling bid and opened a regional headquarters in Chattanooga.

POMCO Group was selected through a competitive procurement process initiated by the state Group Insurance Program to administer Medicare Supplement coverage to its more than 23,000 retirees, and their family members, according to Robert W.
Pomfrey, President & CEO of POMCO.

POMCO will administer claims and provide customer service support for The Tennessee Plan, the State of Tennessee’s Medicare Part A&B Supplement program (also commonly known as Medigap coverage). The Plan is made available to all eligible retired state of Tennessee employees, teachers, and local government employees.

“We’re excited that the state of Tennessee Insurance Committee has chosen us to serve the health administration needs of its retirees across the country,” Mr. Pomfrey said. “We look forward to bringing our health care management expertise to the state’s members and look forward to a long term relationship with the state of Tennessee.”

POMCO Group is replacing BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, who had administered the program since 1989.

Mr. Pomfrey said POMCO expects to hire as many as 20 new customer service and claims associates at its Syracuse headquarters to accommodate its new business growth, which also includes recent client additions Daimler Chrysler Commercial Buses, Owl Wire & Cable, and the North Syracuse and Oswego City school
districts.

POMCO recently opened a Southeast Regional office in Chattanooga as it looks to expand its service offerings in the Southeast.

POMCO, established in 1978, is one of the largest independent professional benefits administrators in the country. POMCO offers an array of customized, fully-integrated self-funded services, including medical, dental, vision benefits management; workers’ compensation and disability management administration; prescription drug management; online benefits; HIPAA consulting; and employee benefits statements, to mid and large-sized employers across the United States.

POMCO has opened a 3,200 square-foot office in Chattanooga.

POMCO will hire new employees to staff the Chattanooga office, officials said.
