Gold Leaf Designs & Gallery, in cooperation with Shuptrine Fine Art, announced its opening at a recently renovated location on Broad Street, and the formation of Shuptrine Fine Art Group.
The opening reception will be on Friday, Nov. 30. from 6-9 p.m. in the evening, celebrating and featuring a recently completed expansion effort transforming the former Allen Brothers Saloon, erected in 1901, to 3,000 square feet of gallery space and artist studios.
The gallery, established in 1985, specializes in the lost art of water gilding, fine custom framing, antique restoration, and fine American art; and as such, has incorporated many of the historic design elements into its renovation.
The expanded storefront features three cast iron columns made by Cahill Foundry, a former Chattanooga foundry, and incorporates the original handmade grooved glass from the building into a transom at the building’s entry.
The expansion highlights Shuptrine Fine Art, which offers works from the mid-19th century to the present, including nationally recognized artists Bruce Wolfe, Brett Weaver, Hubert Shuptrine; and the watercolors and copperplate etchings of internationally-acclaimed artist Stephen Scott Young.
The renovation contributes to the revitalization of what is commonly referred to the South Broad Design District, with Ann Weeks, member of the South Broad Redevelopment Group, crediting the storefront for showing that Broad Street is “continuing to grow and expand, which is a very positive thing for the neighborhood.”
Shuptrine Fine Art Group continues their commitment to providing clientele with fine art, custom framing, water gilding, and restoration needs, as the inception of Shuptrine Fine Art Group creates a cohesive unit representing regional and national artists and capitalizing on an established framing and restoration reputation spanning nearly 25 years, officials said.
