Navy Veteran Owned Two Brainerd Businesses

Chattanooga native and lifelong resident, Henry Christian Eickhoff, Jr., age 92, died on May 6, 2007 at his home at East Ridge Retirement Center after a battle with cancer.

He was the son of the late Henry C. Eickhoff, Sr., and Ella Rambow Eickhoff.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Vesta Wilder Eickhoff who died in 1990, a sister, Ella Eickhoff McMinn, and a brother, Christian T. Eickhoff.

Born in Chattanooga on August 3, 1914, he attended The McCallie School and Chattanooga High School. During WWII, he proudly served his country at the Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC. In 1946, he returned to Chattanooga and opened the Brainerd Heating and Roofing Company, which he operated with his brother. He opened the Brainerd Frame Center in 1973 and operated this business with his wife and son until his retirement.

He was a long-time member of the Brainerd United Methodist Church and later attended Brainerd Baptist Church. He was a member of the Professional Picture Framers Association and for many years a member of the Half Century Club of Chattanooga. He belonged to the Brainerd Optimist Club and along with his wife was very active in the Corvair Club in Chattanooga.

Known all his life as Budd, he was a husband and father with a fun-loving sense of humor, goodness and kindness for everyone, a great dancer and loyal Braves fan. He will be missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Sherry) Scarano and her husband Sal of Asheville, N.C.; son, Henry C. Eickhoff III (Hank) and his wife Karen of Ringgold Ga.; daughter, Betty Jean (BJ) Branson and her husband Jack of Sarasota, Fl., and Jack’s children, Steve and Eric Branson; two grandchildren, Shannon Weyerman of Heidelberg, Germany and Robin Cody of Asheville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Lindsay Weyerman, and Matthew, Erica, and Emma Cody; nieces, JoAnne McMinn Willard of Richmond, Va., Christy Eickhoff Thompson of Crossville, Tn., and Tena Stanfield of Stone Mountain, Ga.; nephew, Chris McMinn of Chattanooga, and several other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Chattanooga Memorial Park with Rev. Lou Parsons officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6–8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family wishes to acknowledge the dedicated care and kind service of Hospice of Chattanooga.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Hospice of Chattanooga at PO Box 19269, Chatt. TN. 37416, or a charity of choice.
