Buddy Guy
Five-time Grammy Award winner and Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame inductee Buddy Guy will appear at the Tivoli Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 6.
Buddy Guy is considered by many - most notably Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Hendrix - as the most talented blues guitarist and performer ever.
As Hendrix once said, "... he is the only person I would rather watch and listen to sing and play than myself." Strong words from possibly the most influential musician to ever pick up a guitar.
Born in southern Louisiana, Buddy Guy moved to Chicago in 1957 where he began his career as a master sessions player for some of the greatest blues men of all time - Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson and many others.
Eventually the record buyers and record label executives started paying more attention to the lead guitarist than they were the title artist on the record. As a result, Buddy Guy's recording career soon began to emerge and his influence started to take hold.
Clapton, at Buddy Guy's induction into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, said Guy "...was to him what Elvis was to so many others. The very first time I heard him play I knew my course was set and Buddy Guy was the pilot."
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
