Dr. Richard Becherer, professor and Clarence E. Harris Chair of Excellence
in Business and Entrepreneurship, has been recognized for his expertise with
a prestigious Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Award.
Specifically, Dr. Becherer has been awarded the Kathryn and Craig Hall Distinguished Chair for
Entrepreneurship in Central Europe and will spend sixteen weeks as a lecturer in the Czech Republic.
The Fulbright Program was created for the purpose of increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the citizens of
over 150 countries that currently participate in the program. Since its
inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 250,000
participants with the opportunity to observe each others' political, economic, and cultural institutions, exchange ideas, and embark on joint
ventures of importance to the general welfare of the world's inhabitants.
Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the
most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program.
As a Fulbright Distinguished Chair, Dr. Becherer will spend four months in
2008 in the Czech Republic as a prominent lecturer at the Prague University of Economics and the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague. He will be teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses dealing with
entrepreneurship, focusing on the psychology of entrepreneurship,
opportunity recognition and evaluation, social entrepreneurship, innovation management, and technology change.
This accomplishment brings international recognition to the expertise of UTC faculty and offers a unique opportunity to share knowledge with scholars in the Czech Republic about the nuances of American entrepreneurship.
