Longtime Elementary Teacher Was Avid Quilter

June Thorpe Blue, 86, of Collegedale, Tn., died on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at a local hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Leslie and Loise Thorpe. She married Sgt. Clarence Blue on July 22, 1944.

She was a member of McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church.

June graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Pacific Union College in Angwin, Ca., and went on to receive her master’s degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She retired in 1988, from the Catoosa County Georgia School System as an elementary school teacher specializing in reading.

She was an avid quilter known and loved for her unique, creative and beautiful quilts. She was actively involved with alumni association activities of Southern Junior College.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence W. Blue; three children, Clarence D. Blue, of Bay Town, Tx., Ann Shaffer, Orlando, Fl., Jan Blue, Tallahassee, Fl., and a cousin, Margaret Thompson Watkins, of Apison, Tn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Don Gettys officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Graysville, Tn.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
