Medical Society Announces Participants For Youth Leadership Forum On Medicine

  • Monday, June 9, 2008

The Chattanooga and Hamilton County Medical Society and Medical Foundation
of Chattanooga will host a Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine – Kids Into Health Careers, June 23-26.

The program encourages high school juniors and seniors to consider careers in medicine. During the
course of the week, students will enjoy daily roundtable discussions with physicians and shadowing a
different physician each day.

The program is designed to provide rising high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to learn more about life as a physician and inspire them to consider a career in medicine;
educate students about options available to assist with the cost of medical education; provide students and local physicians with a community-based mentoring/teaching
experience; assist with efforts to increase the pipeline of health care providers in Southeastern Tennessee.

Program participants include 25 students selected from over 50 applications received by the Medical
Society. The participants represent 17 private, home, and public high schools of Hamilton County.

Medical Society President Vincent A. Viscomi said, “This program is a great way to educate students on the realities of the field of medicine. We aim to inspire these talented young people to pursue a career in the field.”

Sessions will be held at Erlanger Health System on June 23; Memorial Healthcare System on June 24; Kindred Hospital on June 25 and will conclude at Parkridge Medical Center on June 26.
