Harland James
Harland W. James, 79, died on Friday, December 24, at his home, with family at his side.
A lifelong resident of the Hixson area, he was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. James was retired from TVA and was among the first to assist in developing the DuPont-Rivermont baseball complex, where he also served as a coach for many years. He was a 50-year member of Hixson Masonic Lodge # 727.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Roy and Elsie James and a great-granddaughter, MaKayla Tanner.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jessie Lou Chastain James; Sons Allen (Sharon) James, Tim (Nancy) James and Rodney James; grandchildren Jodie Smith, Jeremy James and Ryan James, Jessica and Toby James and Gina Goforth; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 4-8 p.m. at the North Chapel.
Services for Harland will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the North Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, P.O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.
