The Chattanooga Zoo is launching a campaign during the month of December which will allow fans of the Zoo an opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for their favorite animals.

“The 12 Days of Christmas for the Animals” will begin on Thursday. For 12 days, beginning on Dec. 1, the Zoo will feature a different animal on its Facebook page and what he or she would like for Christmas. Guests of the Zoo can bring their gift to the Zoo Gift Shop anytime during the month of December and receive a small gift in return from the Chattanooga Zoo.

“As a nonprofit, people often ask us what they can do to make a difference for the animals and the facility throughout the year,” said Zoo Director Darde Long. “Little things such as canned meats, fruits and blankets are much appreciated.”

A full list of what each animal needs will be posted on the Zoo’s Facebook page. Guests can watch the animals enjoy their gifts during the Zoo’s annual “Holiday Lights” which will take place on Dec. 8 (members only), 9, 10, 16 and 17. Holiday Lights allows guests to see the Zoo transformed into a magical wonderland, visit with the animals, get pictures taken with Santa Claus and enjoy holiday games and crafts.
