New Car Mechatronics Program Accepting Applications For Fall 2012

  • Monday, June 18, 2012

Following the success of the Automotive Mechatronics Program that began in 2010, Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations and the Tennessee Technology Center at Chattanooga State announce another new training program for the fall of 2012. The Car Mechatronics Program is designed to produce the best multi-skilled car technicians trained to work on all aspects of the body, mechanical and electrical/electronic systems in Volkswagen automobiles.

This unique training program will be housed at the state-of-the-art Volkswagen Academy. Students selected for the nine-semester Car Mechatronics program, will gain knowledge and experience hands-on training in basic metalworking, welding, car technology, car electrical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, protection systems and technical drawings. In addition, the program consists of four semesters of paid on-the-job training at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga.

Mike Ricketts, dean of the Tennessee Technology Center, said, “The Car Mechatronics program represents another outstanding training program that leads directly to employment at Volkswagen or a Volkswagen dealership. With the three-year old Automotive Mechatronics Program focused on training high caliber maintenance specialists whose function is to keep the automobile plant operational and the new Car Mechatronics program focused on the automobile, Volkswagen will be able to fill key positions from locally-trained talent. “

Admission to the Car Mechatronics program is limited to 12 individuals for the fall of 2012. To begin the application process, interested individuals should review information about Car Mechatronics at www.chattanoogastate.edu/ttc.
