Cassie Culpepper
Funeral services will be Wednesday for Cassie LeaMay Culpepper, 11, of Ringgold, who was accidentally shot and killed by her 12-year-old brother on Friday.
She was a lifelong resident of Ringgold and of the Methodist faith. She loved animals, horseback riding and spending time with her family.
Cassie was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Jim Woods and Bill Culpepper.
Survivors are her parents, William “Butch” and Beth Culpepper, brother, Nick Culpepper, sister, Audrea Culpepper, grandparents, Donna Woods, Ringgold, Sudie Culpepper, Ringgold, aunts, Kathy (Jerry) Petty, Ringgold, Joetta (Rob) Walters, Nashville, uncles, Mark (Sandy) Woods, Ringgold, Mathon (Amy) Culpepper, Ringgold, and many cousins.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Steve Highlander officiating. Interment will be in Anderson Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, at Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
The two children were riding in the back of a pickup truck with their family when the incident happened near the Whitfield/Catoosa line.
Authorities said the boy had obtained the gun earlier in the day and thought that it was not loaded.
The GBI is investigating.
