Susan Pope Mansfield, 92, died on Friday afternoon, October 11, 2013, at the Life Care Center in Collegedale, Tennessee.

Susan was born on March 22, 1921, the daughter of the late William and Nonie Pope in Luverne, Al., but also lived in New Orleans, a place she dearly loved, before settling in Chattanooga. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1939 and retired from Miller Brothers 30 years ago.

Susan was faithful member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church where she served the Lord for many years. For the past 10 years Susan attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she loved geography and history, but most of all her professors and fellow classmates.  She loved to write poems and travel, having been to Germany, France, Austria, and Italy within the past several years. Susan was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Ford; infant son, Timothy Mansfield; grandson, Julian Ramias; and brother, Jennings Pope.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald Mansfield and his wife Wendy, Randy Mansfield and his wife Sandra; Grandchildren, Wade Mansfield, Zack Mansfield, Erin Driggers, Christopher Albert, Melanie Mansfield, Dustin Ramias and Seth Phillips; loving sisters, Helen Morgan, Jeane Massey, Julia Goodwin; brothers, George Pope and Barna Pope; and Great grandchildren, Zoe, Jesse, McKenzie, Madison, and Saydee.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and 12-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.16, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home with Pastor Barry Hildebrand officiating.  Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
