Betty Roe
Betty Ruth Owens Roe, 82, of Chattanooga died on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. S
He was a member of Kelley’s Ferry Community Church in Whitwell, Tn. Mrs. Roe worked for years in the nursing field and was a professional seamstress. She was known for her good cooking.
She was a member of Friends of Pearl Harbor Survivors and worked closely with her husband for 20 years as he served as president of Pearl Harbor Survivors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. “Schoolboy” Roe; mother, Elma Thomas Owens; father, Alonzo Owens; sister, Joann Gentry; two sons, Ronnie Lewis and Randy Lewis.
Survivors include her daughter,, Glenda (Dixie) Craft (Michael) of Chattanooga; son, Dave Lewis (Bev) of Dumas, Tx.; three stepsons, Tom Roe, Mike Roe and Jack Roe all of the Chattanooga Area; one granddaughter, Sheila Wingfield (Dennis) of Signal Mountain, Tn.; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Austin and Brooke, all of Signal Mountain, Tn.; sister, Lillian Shoemaker of Chattanooga; brother, Al Owens, Jr. of Louisville, Ky., Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, at Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Reverend John Pratt officiating. Burial was in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn.
