Louie Starnes, 92, died on Tuesday, November 18, 2014.

Louie was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Guntersville, Al., the oldest of four children to Alton and Alma Smith Starnes. He was a World War II veteran who served helping build roads and air landing strips in the jungles of Burma. Following the war, he worked for the federal government/TVA for almost 40 years, retiring in 1981.

Louie was a faithful and long-time serving member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.  He tremendously loved his church family and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his neighbors, friends or family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul Starnes.

Louie is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris Martin Starnes; daughter, Carol (Bobby) Higdon of Chattanooga; son, Randy (Becky) Starnes of Bloomington, Il.; granddaughter, Dr. Sarah Starnes of St. Louis; grandson, Jared (Gretchen) Starnes of Lacey, Wa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by brother, James Starnes of Scottsboro, Al., and sister, Sue Kratsch of Huntsville.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, and 12-1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21,  at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military rites accorded. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Ministry of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
