Marilyn Brandenburg
Marilyn Hamlin Brandenburg died on January 10, 2015, at the age of 77, after a brief illness.
She was born in Concord, NH in 1937 to Robert G. and Hope M. Tenney Hamlin both of Gorham, NH. Marilyn was educated at the University of NH and Teacher’s College, Columbia University in NYC. She taught as an elementary school teacher in Long Island, NY and in Kodiak, AK. She also ran her own nursery school known as The Brandenburg School, on Signal Mountain, during the late 60s and early 70s. She obtained her Masters of Education from UTC in 1981.
She was an accomplished flutist and played with the Chattanooga Symphony, the Scenic City Band and the Chattanooga Flute Choir. Her hobbies included dancing (ballet, modern, jazz, and contra dancing) and hiking.
Survivors include her daughter, Wendy Brandenburg McNabb of Ooltewah; son, Eric Hamlin Brandenburg of Chattanooga;grandchildren, Rebecca and Casey McNabb of Ooltewah and Trevor Brandenburg of Chattanooga; sister, Nancy Hamlin of Highland, NY; and a brother, Robert Hamlin of Palm Coast, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, at Fairview United Methodist Church, Hixson.
