George Fred Ankar, 63, of Chattanooga died on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 in a local hospital.  

He was a devoted husband and loving father.  He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Born in Ramallah, Palestine, George was the founder, owner and operator of Ankars Hoagies Restaurants, Inc. and was the former president of the Chattanooga Restaurant Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Ankar; sister, Nawal and sister-in-law, Giselle.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two sons, Alex Ankar and Andrew Ankar; mother, Yasmin Ankar; two brothers, Eddie Ankar and Joe Ankar; one sister, Nadia Ankar; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 6, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Jim Vick officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.  

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.

There will be a rosary service at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
