The Lookout Mountain, Ga., City Council voted Thursday evening to support the Fairyland Garden Club’s fundraiser for the new park.  The garden club intends to sell commemorative bricks to go around the flagpoles.  The bricks can honor or memorialize someone and are a way to add beauty to the new park, Councilwoman Taylor Watson said.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will continue the ongoing beautification of that park as well as other projects around the mountain that the garden club supports.

Mayor David Bennett thanked the Love Lookout initiative for providing the Christmas lights used to decorate the city’s park across the street from the Methodist Church and gas station.  He also thanked Rock City for sending a team to install the lights in the park.

Mayor Bennett also announced that Larry Reed, the city’s building inspector is retiring after nearly 20 years of service.  The mayor and council thanked Mr.
Reed for his service.

Mr. Bennett also said the city is in need of a new nuisance hearing officer to condemn properties and oversee appeals.  The council made a motion to nominate Angie Sutherland pending city attorney Bill Pickering’s approval.

The mayor and the council hosted the city employees at the annual employee Christmas party.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the Lookout Mountain, Ga., City Council will take place Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017.
