Corker’s Office Honors Constitution Week At South Polk Elementary School

  • Saturday, September 17, 2016

Sept. 17 is the 229th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States, and to mark the occasion, students in 11 Tennessee schools will participate in “Constitution Week” events sponsored by the office of Senator Bob Corker.

At an event on Wednesday, in Polk County, a member of Senator Corker’s staff delivered an interactive presentation to students at South Polk Elementary School.

“I am proud to join my fellow Tennesseans in celebrating the United States Constitution, which has served as the foundation of our country for more than 200 years,” said Senator Corker. “I am continually amazed by the incredible foresight and vision our Founding Fathers had when crafting this cherished document. I hope the students who attended our Constitution Week event are inspired and recognize the gift we have been given to live in this great nation.”

The Constitution of the United States was signed on Sept. 17, 1787. In 1956, Congress requested that President Eisenhower proclaim a “Constitution Week” each September. Senator Corker’s office has held “Constitution Week” events across the Volunteer State every year since he assumed office in 2007.
