Life Care Center Of Hixson Welcomes New Leaders

Life Care Center of Hixson is welcoming a new leadership team.

Matthew Cummings will oversee the facility’s operations as executive director, while Austin Heard will oversee clinical matters as the director of nursing.

Mr. Cummings was born and raised in West Virginia. He earned his master’s degree in health care administration and his bachelor’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in health care administration, from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. He has worked in health care administration and management for seven years at various Life Care Centers of America facilities.
He most recently served as executive director of Life Care Center of Old Hickory Village in Old Hickory, Tennessee.

“I really enjoy working for Life Care,” said Mr. Cummings. “I am thankful for the opportunity to work for Life Care again, and the opportunity to work with such a great team that is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those who come to Life Care Center of Hixson for care and therapy.”  

Mr. Cummings resides in Hixson with his wife, Mandy, and 6-month-old daughter, Emma.   

Mr. Heard was born and raised in the Hixson area. He comes to Life Care Center of Hixson from Life Care Center of Red Bank in Chattanooga, where he worked as assistant director of nursing. He has worked in long-term care for approximately six years. He has a bachelor’s degree of science in nursing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Mr. Heard lives in Hixson with his wife, Rikki.

“I’m thankful to Elizabeth Martin, director of nursing at Red Bank, for all the training she provided,” said Mr. Heard. “I’m also thankful for my wife – I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her and all the support and understanding.”

Life Care Center of Hixson, located at 5798 Hixson Home Place, is one of 26 skilled nursing facilities in Tennessee operated or managed by Life Care Centers of America.
