Soddy Elementary School Student Ryan Jenkins Selected As Disney Summer Of Service Winner

  • Monday, February 27, 2017

Ryan Jenkins, a third grader at Soddy Elementary School in Soddy Daisy, has been awarded a Disney Summer of Service grant through YSA (Youth Service America). The grant will support Ryan's Food Drive, which will benefit the Soddy Daisy Food Bank. Ryan hopes this project will help raise awareness of the needs of people that face hunger in his local community.

Ryan is one of 340 young leaders across the country awarded a $500 Disney Summer of Service grant to organize projects to help make their communities healthier and stronger. Grantees are mobilizing their peers through awareness, service, advocacy, and philanthropic activities in the hopes that they will continue to work toward finding positive solutions to impact their community.

Founded in 1986, YSA supports a global culture of  engaged children and youth committed to a lifetime of meaningful service, learning, and leadership. With half the world's population under age 25, YSA's mission is to help young people find their voice, take action, and make an impact on vital community issues.
