Moe’s Southwest Grill On Track To Plant 10,000 Trees For Earth Day

  • Wednesday, April 19, 2017

Moe’s Southwest Grill at 1820 Gunbarrel Road in Chattanooga, and 5510 Highway 153 in Hixson, is hosting its annual 2017 Cheese for Trees drive on April 1-22, in honor of Earth Day. For every cup or bowl of queso sold in the store during these dates, two trees will be planted.

Catering orders that have queso during April 1-22, will have 50 trees planted per order. Last year, Moe’s had 9,000 trees planted during Cheese for Trees through the nonprofit organization, Trees for the Future (trees.org). This year’s goal is to plant over 10,000 trees. Patrons can keep track of the number of trees donated via the Moe’s digital billboard located at the corner of Gunbarrel Road and Commons Boulevard.

“This is an especially fun time of year as people can watch the billboard on Gunbarrel Road’s tree counter go higher and higher. We are currently on track to plant well over 10,000 trees,” said Trey Koontz, head burrito slinger and operations manager.  Moe’s has partnered with the organization, Trees for the Future, to plant the trees. Trees for the Future was established in 1989 with a mission to provide families with food, income, empowerment, unity, leadership, education and even saves lives through the planting of trees. Since then Trees has planted over 115 million trees in dozens of countries and revitalized hundreds of thousands of acres of soil while changing people’s lives forever.

Moe’s Southwest Grill has two locations in the Chattanooga area, 1820 Gunbarrel Road in Chattanooga, and 5510 Highway 153 in Hixson. Moe’s Southwest Grill is a fast casual Mexican & Tex-Mex restaurant offering fresh, made-to-order Southwest fare in a welcoming environment that rocks. With more than 20 incredibly fresh ingredients like all-natural chicken, grass-fed steak and organic tofu to create one-of-a-kind meals, Moe’s has everyone covered, from meat lovers to tree huggers to vegetarians and flexitarians. While they are best known for our awesome burritos and world famous queso, their menu also features kids’, vegetarian and low-calorie options – all served with free chips and salsa.
