Jean Shumacker, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017. 

She was one of nine children born to the late Fred Mahan, Sr. and Grace Myers Mahan.  Jean was the first lady bail bondsman in Chattanooga and was the proud owner of Shumacker Bonding Company. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Shumacker, Sr.; siblings, Willie Dimple, Katherine Mack, Kenneth Mahan, Henry Lee Mahan, Fred Mahan, Jr., and Roscoe Mahan. Jean would have liked to thank all of her friends for “A great ride.”

Survivors include her children, Brenda Lee Mahan, Marcelle Cagle, Edward Shumacker, Jr.; siblings, McArthur Mahan, and Sina Sue Pinkerton; two granddaughters, and seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Ahlziemers Association, 7625 Hamilton Park Dr. #22, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
