William Newberry, a long-time admission and summer program administrator at McCallie, has joined the staff at Baylor School as director of Auxiliary Programs.

In this new position, Mr. Newberry will be responsible for the executive oversight of all campus activities that fall outside the normal school calendar, including summer programs and an expanding schedule of events designed to maximize the use of Baylor’s 690-acre campus.

Baylor School Headmaster Scott Wilson said the choice of Mr. Newberry concluded a national search. “We had a lot of interest in the position and we are absolutely thrilled to have him at Baylor,” said Headmaster Wilson.

Mr. Newberry has leadership experience from his tenure at McCallie, including 25 years as the assistant director of Summer Programs and 22 years as the director of Day Admissions. Most recently he has been working with the McCallie development office, in addition to his summer camp activities. He is a Chattanooga native and a graduate of McCallie and Middle Tennessee State University.

He joins Baylor’s summer programs team that includes Carol Huckaby, who will continue as director of Summer Programs, and Bett Adams, who will continue to head Camp Walkabout.

Baylor’s summer camps feature a variety of programs that attract approximately 1,000 young people to the campus each year, including 24 students from around the U.S. and world for an overnight entrepreneur camp and another 60 for an overnight outdoor adventure camp.
