Students from nineteen Hamilton County middle schools met at Chickamauga Dam to compete in the Hamilton County Cross-Country Tournament on Thursday evening. Over 200 students completed the hilly, 2-mile course.
The competition was dominated by Signal Mountain Middle School, who won both the girls’ and boys’ races. In the boys’ race, they scored 43 points, followed by CLSA (74) and East Hamilton (105). In the girls’ race, Signal Mountain had 24 points. CSLA was second with 154 points and Sale Creek earned 3rd place with 209.
The boys’ race was won by Charlie Phillips of East Hamilton, followed by Griffin Richards in second place. They were trailed by Reed McDonald of CSLA in third and Kayden Trussell from East Hamilton in fourth. The top ten was rounded out by Wil Keck - 5th (CSAS), Joshua Dixon - 6th (CSLA), Esteban Rocha - 7th (Ooltewah), Emory Hubbard - 8th (Signal Mountain), Luke McLain - 9th (Signal Mountain) and Ian Gildernew -10th (CSLA).
In the girls’ race, Sophia Luttrell of Brown Academy placed first, followed by Lilly Vicknair of Signal Mountain in second. Hope Jenkins, also from Signal Mountain was third and Jade Skiba from Soddy-Daisy placed 4th. The remaining girls in the top ten were Audrey Lubinski - 5th (Signal Mountain), Izzy Chapman - 6th (Signal Mountain), Sarayu Peesari - 7th (Hixson), Carsyn Gautreaux - 8th (Signal Mountain), Olive Kidd - 9th (Ooltewah), and Jocelyn Freund - 10th (Signal Mountain).
