Hamilton County Family Celebrates 66 Continuous Years Of Family Connections

  • Friday, September 20, 2024

In the summer of 1959, the Roark-Conner family held its first family reunion in Hamilton County. On September 27 - 29, the Roark-Conner Association (R-CA) will celebrate its 66th continuous Annual Reunion.

The Reunion is an important gathering of Roark and Conner descendants and relatives of local pioneer families who settled, in the mid to late 1830’s, in the eastern portion of Hamilton County.

The Reunion begins Friday, September 27th (5-8:30 p.m.) at Candies Creek Church, 294 Old Eureka Road, N.W. Charleston. Activities include: Meet and Greet, BBQ and a sundae bar, and music and entertainment. Saturday, September 28th, (8 a.m. - 2 p.m.), at Candies Creek Church, begins with hot coffee and pastries and a Memorial Service to honor those who passed.

Featured presentations include: Revolutionary War Heroes by the Sons of the American Revolution, Laura Roark Shropshire by her grandson Jere Glover, and Cemetery Cleanup by John Blankenship.

Lunch will then be served and door prizes will be distributed including a raffle of a custom-made quilt entitled “Birchwood” designed specifically for the Roark-Conner Association’s 66th reunion. Family-related books and DVDs will also be sold. A special afternoon tour of important family historical sites will follow including a prayer at the historic Salem Baptist Church site and a visit to the Joseph Roark homestead.

Sunday, October 1st, is open for family members to attend a local church service or visit local historical sites. Go to www.Roark-Conner.org, email BoD@roark-conner.org, or call 202-669-1802, for more information. Questions or journalistic interest is welcome.
