Boyd Buchanan School is getting a new building for their wrestling program. School officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony this Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
“We are excited to have this new space for our wrestling program as well as the strength training and fitness studio for BBS students and faculty,” says Joe Pope, athletic director for Boyd Buchanan School.
The new Strength and Wrestling facility was approved by the Boyd Buchanan Board of Trustees last spring and has been funded primarily by private donors.
“We are so grateful to our donors and board of trustees for making this initiative a reality.” says Jill C. Hartness, head of school for Boyd Buchanan.
The 9,000 square-foot Strength and Wrestling facility is expected to be completed by late 2017.
“Having a dedicated space for wrestling, along with a strong program, and of course committed student-athletes makes it a very exciting time to be a Buccaneer,” says Shane Turner, head coach for Boyd Buchanan wrestling.
Within the addition, will be a 25-yard wrestling arena, locker rooms, a social gathering space, and a state-of-the-art strength training, and fitness studio. Students and faculty will have access to the fitness area.
“The addition of this facility is another step in the direction of overall campus wellness,” says Ms. Hartness. “Building on the foundation we already have with our strength coaches, agriculture program and partnership with SAGE dining, this is another win for our students and faculty as it enhances wellness for everyone on campus.”
In the past 18 months, BBS has experienced several infrastructure-based changes with the renovation of their main gymnasium Jett Gym, development of a new Student Life Center for their secondary school, renovated Buccaneer Stadium in partnership with NikeGrind and AstroTurf, and a renovated playscape for the elementary. The renovated Jett Gym was where wrestling matches and tournaments have been previously hosted.
