Welcome Home Of Chattanooga Closing In On Completion Of Housing Capital Raise

  • Wednesday, December 19, 2018
This summer Welcome Home of Chattanooga announced the We Are Home capital campaign aimed at raising $200,000 for the construction of a new home for the organization, and as 2018 draws to a close it has generated $115,000 in donations from across the community.

Welcome Home of Chattanooga is a five-bedroom residence for those with a terminal illness that have nowhere to go for end of life care.

“The response to We Are Home has been overwhelming, and we believe that we can reach our final goal in the coming weeks,” said Welcome Home’s Executive Director Sherry Campbell.

One reason for such optimism is a significant matching challenge from Welcome Home supporter Norman Faris.
Mr. Faris has offered to match all gifts through the end of the year - up to $25,000.

“Mr. Faris’s generosity could be the catalyst that allows us to finish the campaign and realize our dream of building a beautiful new home for our residents,” Ms. Campbell said, “In this season of giving, I believe the Chattanooga community will answer his call.”

Other key supporters of the We Are Home campaign include: The Multi-Family Coalition for Affordable Housing, CHI Memorial Hospital, The Weldon F. Osborne Foundation, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, The George R. Johnson Family Foundation, Pinnacle Financial Partners, The Coulter Family Foundation, The Joel and Ann Clements Family, Tinker Ma Architecture & Design, Erlanger Health System, The First Tennessee Foundation and dozens of other individuals and families.

Welcome Home is teaming up with local architecture firm Tinker Ma in order to design an innovative home that meets all of its operational needs. “Brad Shelton and the team at Tinker Ma have been huge supporters from the very beginning, and I look forward to seeing their expertise come to life in our new home,” said John Kerns, chairman of Welcome Home's board of directors.

"In collaboration with local hospice organizations, Welcome Home provides compassionate end of life care that includes meals, housing, personal support, social services and community. It also hosts several opportunities for the public to learn about issues around death, dying and grief," officials said.

Ms. Campbell, along with Rachel Smith, LMSW, founded Welcome Home in 2014 after Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee provided a $360,000 grant to seed the organization. The residence opened its doors the following year.

Welcome Home of Chattanooga is currently located at 400 South Germantown Road.
