With the federal government shutdown in its fifth week, the Chattanooga Housing Authority has been responding to concerns of residents, landlords and employees regarding funding for the CHA’s administration of the Low Income Public Housing Program and the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HUD). The CHA receives funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The CHA will continue to receive HUD funding for the Low Income Public Housing Program and the Housing Choice Voucher Program through the end of February, with no anticipated negative impact on residents, landlords and CHA staff.
The CHA will continue to collect rent from its public housing residents.
The CHA will continue to draw down funds for its Capital Fund Program and Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency grants with no HUD involvement.
If the shutdown continues beyond Feb. 28, the CHA will use its reserves to continue the programs.
CHA Executive Director Elizabeth McCright said, “We’ve had a few questions about how the federal government shutdown might impact CHA. While we don’t know how long the shutdown will last, we want those we serve or do business with to know we don’t anticipate any inconvenience. Our team is well-prepared for this situation and our daily operations continue as they would on any other business day.”
