Great American Deli in Ooltewah is recalling its egg salad sandwich due to possible listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The Federal Drug Administration said listeria monocytogenes can cause fatal infections to people with weakened immune systems as well as cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The specific recall is for GAD #114 Egg Salad Sandwich 4.8 oz. UPC: 7-41431-00114-2.
There have been no reports of illness from contamination as of Thursday afternoon said the FDA.
The recall was initiated from Almark Foods, which supplies ingredients to Knott's Fine Foods, one of Great American Deli's suppliers.
States with possible affected product include Tennessee, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania. The items are sold in vending machines, convenience stores and micro markets.
Those who may have purchased the affected sandwiches may return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact the company at 1-800-343-1327.
