About 93 miles south of the tip of Florida lies a land that has been preserved in time, yet poised on the cusp of dramatic change. Despite its geographic proximity to the United States, many Americans have seen Cuba as a remote and exotic place for decades.

Through the lens of the documentarians at Golden Gate 3D (JerusalemNational Parks Adventure), however, a new giant screen movie, CUBA, offers audiences a chance to cross the Straits of Florida and get to know America’s vibrant southern neighbor. Viewers will be transported to the largest island in the Caribbean to explore a land full of rich traditions and spectacular natural wonders. Special screenings of this new filmwill be offered at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater May 3-5.

CUBA provide a colorful window into the Caribbean nation’s history and heart by showcasing its lively culture, meticulously maintained colonial architecture and pristine ecosystems. The film offers breathtaking views of lush landscapes and eye-popping dives into iridescent tropical reefs before whirling through streets throbbing with music and dance in the heart of Havana. Through the eyes of Cuban artists, historians, and scientists, the film provides an intimate look this vivacious island nation.

Director Peter Chang hopes the film opens the eyes of the world to this dynamic, multi-dimensional country and its people. "It's the architecture, the large unspoiled swaths of land, and the cities. Cuba is so unique and fascinating — a world unto itself," Mr. Chang said. "Seeing the landscapes and the cityscapes on this large canvas will make people realize what’s there just 90 miles from our border.”

Audiences will be stunned by the vibrance of the coral reefs lying off Cuba’s sandy shores. Here, healthy populations of Brain, Elkhorn, and Staghorn corals provide the backdrop to views of massive Atlantic Goliath Groupers, Spiny Lobsters and titanic Caribbean Conch. Spotted Eagle Rays are another frequent star of this underwater scenery, gliding serenely beneath blue waves alongside Silky and Caribbean Reef Sharks. Whale Sharks are another species known to cruise Cuba’s warm coastal waters.

Mr. Chang’s team of experienced filmmakers were granted an unprecedented level of access to the country. The scenic beauty of the landscape bursts with color on the giant six-story screen at IMAX accompanied by a soundtrack that captures the lively essence of Cuban music.

He said, “CUBA  will be a portrait of this vibrant island at a pivotal point in its history and will bring to life the character and spirit of the land and people as only the giant screen can.”

Special screenings of CUBA will be offered at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater:

Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, at 4 and 7 p.m.

Sunday, May 5 at 4 p.m.
