A Chattanooga man has been charged with aggravated assault on police after allegedly attempting to run over a police officer with his vehicle in an incident on June 18.

According to police, Jumonte Brown, 20, drove through a red light at the intersection of E. Brainerd Road and Bunker Hill Road. Officer Jacob Lee noticed and began to pursue Brown’s vehicle.

The suspect then slowed down but did not stop. He then turned off his car’s lights and made a couple of U-turns. Now behind the officer’s vehicle, Brown’s vehicle sped up again and began speeding toward the police car.

Officer Lee was able to move his vehicle in time, avoiding a collision and initiating a chase. After a high-speed chase down the highway,  officer Lee eventually lost sight of the vehicle.

The police were able to match the license plate number with Jumonte Brown, and they put out a warrant for his arrest.

Brown was charged with aggravated assault on an officer, felony evading, red light law, failure to maintain lane, felony reckless endangerment, and speeding.
