At approximately 8:23 p.m. on Tuesday East Ridge Fire, East Ridge Police and Lifeguard EMS were dispatched to a reported apartment fire on 714 Bacon Trail with one civilian trapped on the second floor.
Crews arrived on the scene reporting heavy smoke coming from the apartment building. One crew deployed a ground ladder to a second floor window and rescued a victim, while a second crew entered the structure to locate and extinguish the fire.
One person was transported to Erlanger Hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
One firefighter was also transported to Erlanger Hospital and was later released. Another firefighter was treated at the scene for minor burns.
A second alarm was requested from Mutual Aid. Second alarm companies were Chattanooga Quint 13, Squad 13, Squad 7, Deputy Chief Boatwright, Catoosa Engine 7 and Hamilton County Marine Rescue rehab. Mutual Aid filled assignments with Tri-Community and Rossville.
It appears that the cause of the fire was due to a lightning strike.
